Timothée Chalamet to Star in Film Inspired by Late Ping-Pong Player Marty Reisman

Timothée Chalamet will star in a new film inspired by professional ping-pong player Marty Reisman.

The 28-year-old Oscar nominee, who is currently filming the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, will star in and produce Marty Supreme, an original film from Josh Safdie and A24, according to Variety.

The film is a fictionalized story inspired by the life of Reisman, who died at the age of 82 in 2012.

Marty Supreme is written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, who produce alongside Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas.

Safdie previously worked with A24 on his films Uncut Gems and Good Time.

A24 confirmed the X news, writing: “Josh Safdie’s MARTY SUPREME with @RealChalamet. Coming soon.”

Reisman was an icon of American table tennis, having won the U.S. Men’s Singles Championship in 1958 and 1960 and the U.S. Open Championship in 1997.

He won five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships and won 22 major table tennis titles from 1946 to 2002, including two US Opens and one British Open.

He became the oldest player to win a national open competition in a racquet sport when he won the 1997 U.S. Hardbat National Championship at age 67.

In addition to his athletic prowess, he was known for his flamboyant style, wearing Borsalino fedoras and Panama hats.

Chalamet rose to fame for his role in the 2017 coming-of-age romantic drama Call Me by Your Name. At age 21, he became one of the youngest actors to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Since Call Me by Your Name, Chalamet has starred in Greta Gerwig’s Ladybird (2017) and Little Women (2019) and landed a role in Wes Anderson’s comedy The French Dispatch (2021).

But the burgeoning talent cemented his status as a franchise superstar by starring in two ambitious films based on the epic sci-fi series Dune, which grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide.

The star is currently dating Kylie Jenner, 26 – and it was recently claimed the reality star wanted to keep her romance with the actor out of the public eye.

A source explained that while she speaks glowingly about Timothée in her private circle, she doesn’t want to make headlines.

“Kylie is very protective of their relationship, but every time she talks about him, she has a big smile on her face. She really likes a lot of things about him,” the source told People.

“Things are going well with Timothée. Kylie is happy. They are both busy, but they make time to see each other, especially on the weekends,” the source added.

“He works in New York. She’s visited him and he’s also gone back to LA some weekends. They make it work.”

Kylie and Timothee were spotted together in Los Angeles earlier this month, marking their first public appearance together in five months.

The couple avoided being seen together for so long that earlier this year rumors began circulating that they had quietly ended their relationship.

However, in late May, a source assured Entertainment Tonight that they were still together and that it was “easy” to keep their relationship hot.

“Kylie and Timothée still see each other and are happy. They don’t have to try to make things work and it just comes naturally to them,” the source said.

“Their relationship is easy. They make an effort to see each other when they can and stay in touch when they are not geographically close to each other.”

They were first linked in April 2023, but didn’t confirm their romance until September, when they shared a passionate kiss in the stands at a Beyoncé concert.
