Rockford announces plans for trash collection after flooding

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – For those affected by recent flooding, the city of Rockford says homeowners can take out flood waste before regular collection during the weeks of July 15 and July 22.

Waste will be collected on normal household waste collection days.

The city says residents must first fill their city-provided 95-gallon trash bins, before switching to standard 32-gallon trash cans with secure lids.

Items such as furniture, rugs and appliances that do not fit in the trash cans should be placed for collection as follows:

  • Construction and renovation materials, televisions/monitors, auto parts, tires, hazardous liquids and waste will not be accepted
  • Televisions and electronics can be brought to Keep Northern Illinois Beautify for disposal. The Rockford location is at 4665 Hydraulic Road and the Machesney Park location is at 8409 N. Second Street.
  • Items containing Freon, such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, will not be accepted unless certified as Freon-free by a licensed refrigeration technician and labeled
  • Carpet, plank and sheet flooring must be cut into sections no longer than 3 feet and secured with string or tape. Each section must not weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Household chemicals, fluorescent bulbs/ballasts and other common household chemicals can be brought to the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Site, 425 East State Street, Rockford
