They played “filler music” continuously for nearly 45 minutes after a teleprompter malfunctioned. Their repertoire included hits like “I want you to want me” by Cheap tip and several songs from the The Doobie Brothers.

Social media users praised Sixwire’s performance.

“Teleprompters fell on President Johnson at the end of his speech. A band is playing while they fix the teleprompters. They play cool songs by Doobie Brothers, Chicago, etc. The singer is awesome. I wonder who they are?” one person asked.

Another user asked: “Does anyone know the band playing at the RNC? Or at least the names of the members? My mom wants to know who the singer is.”

A third person asked: “Anyone know who the RNC band/musicians are? Very solid!”

Here’s what we know about Sixwire:

Sixwire was formed in 2000 in Tennessee and consists of five members: Andy Childs (vocals, guitar), Steve Hornbeak (keyboards, vocals), John Howard (bass guitar), Steve Mandile (guitar, vocals) and Chuck Tilley (drums, percussion).

The group signed with Warner Bros. Their first single, “Look at Me Now,” was released in 2002 and peaked at number 30 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Their second single, “Way Too Deep,” peaked at number 55.

In 2007, the group auditioned for the Fox Networks reality show “The Next Great American Band”, placing second. A year later, they were the house band on the CMT talent show “Can You Duet”.
