Meet PLAN NV’s Laura Martin Who Wished Trump Dead and Claimed Assassination Attempt Was a Staged

Meet Laura Martin (she/her), Executive Director of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN), an organization dedicated to advancing progressive causes and candidates in Nevada. Their coalition of over 30 diverse organizations aims to make Nevada a more “socially and environmentally just” state. PLAN aligns with organizations such as Planned Parenthood, Chispa, Mass Liberation Project, Silver State Equality, and the Culinary Union.

Martin sent out several tweets over the weekend hoping that news of President Donald Trump’s death would end her campaign. She then shockingly claimed that the assassination attempt at Trump’s Pennsylvania rally was “staged.”

Despite PLAN’s nonpartisan spirit, Martin’s social media history is rife with inflammatory rhetoric directed at Republican candidates and officials inside and outside of Nevada, but that hasn’t stopped the Nevada Democratic Party and elected Democratic officials from working with PLAN on legislation that impacts the lives of Nevadans.

Their “Planistas” are activists and community organizers who intervene during the legislative session to influence Democratic state lawmakers, like Rep. Cecilia Gonzalez, to advance progressive legislation.

In an Instagram Live conversation, Gonzalez said she got involved with PLAN as a Planista in 2015 because she was “angry.” As an elected representative, she sponsored criminal justice reform legislation that PLAN endorsed and amplified. During the conversation, Gonzalez promised to reintroduce the legislation in the next legislative session in 2025.

Democratic candidates and elected officials have long praised PLAN’s organizing efforts, support, and voter engagement in winning their respective elections. In 2018, Rosen thanked the progressive organization and called its efforts “important work.”

Earlier in the day, the Nevada Republican Party called on Nevada Democrats to denounce Martin’s toxic rhetoric, calling his statements “classless” and “what’s wrong with America.”

In response to Martin’s posts on X, a spokesperson for Rosen’s campaign released this statement to the Globe:

“Senator Rosen strongly disagrees with these comments and believes that calls for political violence and hatred have no place in this country. She called on us to come together as Americans and reject baseless conspiracy theories from both sides.”

Chris D’Aloia, communications director for Rep. Susie Lee, told the Globe: “Congresswoman Lee strongly denounces political violence and any calls for it, including Laura Martin’s disturbing comments.”

According to Ana Kasparian, producer and host of the show Young Turks, “Those who claim that the shooting of Trump today was staged without any evidence are disgusting, repulsive people who are playing a major role in the destruction of this country.”

Martin and PLAN have blocked The Nevada Globe on X and Martin has now made his Instagram profile private. Preventing a state-sanctioned news organization from fairly reporting on your political efforts and influence in Nevada is not progressive, it is cowardly and childish.

The Globe has reached out to Rep. Cecilia Gonzales and Nevada Democratic Party Chairman Rep. Daniel Monroe-Moreno for comment. We will update the story with their comments as soon as we receive them.
