MotoGP Kazakhstan Grand Prix cancelled, replaced by Misano Grand Prix

The Kazakhstan MotoGP Grand Prix has been officially cancelled. Originally scheduled for July, the event was postponed until September due to flooding in Central Asia. Unfortunately for Kazakh MotoGP fans, it has been officially removed from the calendar. This news comes as Dorna Sports has also confirmed that the event has been included in the calendar. Bharat GP for 2025 after being cancelled for 2024 due to “operational constraints”.

As for the Kazakhstan GP, a second round at Misano will replace the Sokol event. This new event will be called the Emilia Romagna GP. The cancellation was attributed to operational and logistical issues resulting from flooding in the region. Despite the cancellation, the MotoGP calendar will now retain 20 rounds despite this change.

After the San Marino GP in Misano, the new Emilia Romagna GP will be held on the same circuit. The Asian phase of MotoGP will begin with the Indonesian GP from 27 to 29 September. This change creates a series of three consecutive Grands Prix: Emilia Romagna, Indonesia and Japan, which will represent a challenge for the riders and their teams.

Early rumours of a second Grand Prix in Qatar to replace the cancelled event have not materialised. But the challenges of maintaining infrastructure in top condition, especially for a top motorsport event like MotoGP, are immense. Although the Kazakhstan Grand Prix has been cancelled for 2024, we are hopeful that it will make a return to next year’s racing calendar.
