A shooting defendant was offered a plea before D.C. Superior Court Judge Lynn Leibovitz during a July 15 hearing.

Dominick Jackson, 38, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm during a violent crime and unlawful possession of a firearm for his alleged involvement in a domestic dispute that resulted in a non-fatal shooting.

The incident occurred on November 20, 2022, in the 700 block of 12th Street, NE, and left an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to court documents, eight gunshots were heard and four shell casings were discovered at the scene. Responding Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers found damage to a vehicle and learned that a victim, identified as the stepfather of Jackson’s children, had been transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

At the hospital, the victim allegedly identified the shooter as Jackson to MPD officers, according to court documents.

The offer proposed by the prosecution would require Jackson to plead guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon with criminal possession and menacing (misdemeanors) in exchange for a dismissal of all other charges.

In court, Judge Leibovitz said that if two weeks pass without a resolution, the prosecution could revoke Jackson’s plea offer.

Defense attorney Kevin Robertson asked the court to lift the curfew imposed on his client for his release, but to keep the GPS tracker in place. The prosecution opposed the request.

Judge Leibovitz denied the request and upheld the curfew, stating that it was the least restrictive condition available to defendant Jackson.

A new trial date has been set for January 14, 2025, with a pretrial hearing on January 7.
