SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WOLO) – A woman was arrested in Sumter County after deputies said she attempted a traffic stop Friday.

The sheriff’s office said a deputy was conducting a routine traffic stop on Friday, July 12, around 4:15 p.m., when he saw a vehicle disregard a stop sign at an adjacent intersection.

The officer said there was an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle when he approached it. Shaquanna Cristina Denise Adams admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, several bags containing suspected marijuana and a bag of pills of various colors were discovered. Adams told officers the pills were ecstasy.

In addition to the drugs, the officer found a semi-automatic handgun.

A check of the handgun revealed it was listed as stolen, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said.

Adams was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and released on a personal recognizance bond totaling $10,000.

She was charged with possession of a stolen handgun and distribution of methamphetamine.

Adams was also cited for failure to obey a stop sign, simple possession of marijuana and failure to maintain proof of insurance in the vehicle.
