Plane forced to make emergency landing on beach in Brazil

A plane suffering from a suspected mechanical failure was forced to make an emergency landing on a beach near tourists.

The small plane was heading to Jacarepagu Airport, west of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from Espirito Santo, when an emergency was declared. Suddenly losing altitude, the plane lowered its wings and lost altitude. To the surprise of many people on Praia de Itaipua beach in Marica, the small plane landed quietly on the sand, near a place where people were sunbathing. An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of this imminent disaster.

According to a local report, “Passengers on the plane have received initial medical treatment for evaluation and the site has been closed to the public to allow for further investigation. The accident will be investigated by the Aviation Accident Investigation and Prevention Center, which will determine the causes and circumstances of the incident.”

According to eyewitness accounts, the plane had difficulties and made a controlled descent towards the beach, thus avoiding a more serious accident. After the forced landing, teams from the Maric Civil Defense, the ambulance service and the fire brigade were called and went to the scene. A Military Police helicopter flew over the area to provide assistance.

Initially, the emergency landing was thought to be due to a failure of the aircraft’s equipment. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Last month, a passenger plane suffered severe damage to its windshield and nose when it descended into hail. The Austrian Airlines plane was heading to Vienna when it encountered a thunderstorm that was not reported on its weather radar, which put it in difficulty.

As visibility deteriorated, the pilot issued a distress call as he continued flying blind at about 19,685 feet above Hartberg, Austria, last night. Loose objects in the cabin were reportedly thrown about, and the crew had to calm several terrified passengers as hail hampered the flight. Despite the danger, the pilot was eventually able to land the plane safely.

Shortly after landing, passengers disembarked and were shocked to see the damage to both windshields, the nose and several panels. Despite the fear, no one on board the plane that had taken off earlier from Palma, Mallorca, was injured.
