USDA: Message from secretary, deputy secretary on PA events

Dear Colleagues,

Our prayers are with former President Trump and the victims who were injured or killed during Saturday’s attack, as well as their families and those who were traumatized by the violence. Among them, Corey Comperatore, a firefighter, father and husband, lost his life while protecting his family from bullets at the rally. As President Biden has stated, there is no place in America for this kind of violence—or any kind of violence, and an assassination attempt is contrary to what we stand for as a nation, and as a democracy.

As we all continue to process the events and violence that took place, and as we learn more from the ongoing investigation, we want to take a moment to remind you all to take care of yourselves and to take care of each other. Our work is important and fundamental to the lives of the people we serve. We are fortunate to have a role in our nation’s government, and it is in times like these where we can step up to serve as an example of the dignity and grace that America was built upon.
