Belton ISD’s new school ready for fall, other projects near completion | KWKT

Belton, Tx (FOX44) – Belton ISD taxpayers are starting to see more of the $173 million bond proposal they approved.

Belton ISD trustees received an update Monday night on the progress of projects approved by voters in May 2022.


James L. Burrell Elementary School was declared nearly complete and opened in January of this year. Hubbard Branch Elementary School was declared nearly complete and is expected to open in August.

Deputy Superintendent Mike Morgan said several major projects are in the final stages. Among them are the gymnasium, music and art classrooms at Southwest Elementary School and the fine arts and athletics spaces at Lake Belton High School. Additions and enhancements to the career and technical education and fine arts programs and other improvements and renovations at Belton High School are also underway.

Morgan said progress on the BISD Ag Barn is moving quickly. It is expected
to be completed this summer.

Elsewhere during the meeting, Ellen Burnett, president of the Belton Education Enrichment Foundation (BEEF), presented the foundation’s annual report that celebrated the organization’s investments in BISD through teacher grants and scholarships during the 2023-24 school year. Teacher grants totaled $141,953 last school year, and the foundation awarded $495,400 to 194 students at BISD’s three high schools this spring.

As a thank you, the Board of Directors offered BEEF a community partner
award, which is given to outstanding local businesses and organizations that
demonstrate extraordinary support for students and district staff.

Trustees also recognized Walmart on West Adams with a Community Partner Award for
their service and generosity to Belton ISD staff and area residents following the tornado
which hit the community in May.
