£20,000 offered for information about fatal assault of teenager last year

Crimestoppers has offered a £20,000 reward for information into the murder of a teenager killed a year ago.

Claudyo Lafayette was just 17 when he was fatally stabbed on Granville Road, Kilburn, north-west London, on Friday 14 July 2023.

The charity Crimestoppers is supporting the police investigation by offering up to £20,000 for any information it receives exclusively – either via its website or by telephone – which leads to the conviction of those responsible for the murder of Claudyo Lafayette.

This reward is available for three months and will expire on October 10, 2024.

Claudyo’s mother, Yzakia Jauad, said: “I know that no matter what I say or do, it will not bring my son back, but I am asking for your help to get the justice my son deserves.

“Claudyo had a real sense of injustice towards others. He always did everything he could to help others. His friends and especially his youngest children would wait for him at the school gate for one reason or another. He was their bodyguard, which says a lot about his character.

“That is why it is my duty as a mother to ensure that justice is done for our son.”

Witnesses at the birthday party

Alexa Loukas, London regional manager for the charity Crimestoppers, said: “Claudyo’s death has devastated his family and friends. We know that a number of people at the birthday party witnessed the attack and, for one reason or another, did not come forward.

“Perhaps you saw something or heard something about the incident, but you don’t know who to tell, or you think it might not be important.

“We know young people don’t want to talk to the police for fear of being labelled as snitches, but it’s safe to talk to Crimestoppers.

“We are not the police. We cannot identify you and will never ask you for your personal information, but we can pass on what you know.

“Claudyo had his whole life ahead of him and he fought against injustice. Now he deserves someone to step up and do what’s right for him.”

Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who is leading the investigation, said: “It is a year since Claudyo’s murder, it is a year since we began our investigation. We have made significant progress in our investigations, but we have not yet secured a conviction.

“There were a lot of people around the night of Claudyo’s murder, some of them saw or know what happened to him.

“I ask you, on behalf of the police and Claudyo’s family, to tell us what you know.

“I also ask anyone who may have filmed the incident on their phone to contact me.”

Five people have already been arrested in connection with the investigation and remain free on bail.
