Arsenal face problem in Calafiori transfer

Arsenal are waiting for Bologna to resolve their sell-on clause obligation with Basel before they can complete a deal for Riccardo Calafiori.

Mikel Arteta’s side are hoping to sign the Italian defender this summer, but Bologna are hoping to reduce the fee paid to the Swiss side.

The Mirror states: “Arsenal’s move for Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori is on hold due to a clash between the Italian side and Basel – who have a fee to pay.

“The Gunners have been pushing for weeks to bring Calafiori in, but their negotiations are ‘frozen’ and Bologna are threatening to cancel the deal. They want Basel, who are entitled to 50% of the fee, to accept less than what was agreed in the initial agreement.”

“The Gunners are looking to strengthen their backline this summer, despite already boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League. Left-back is an area where Mikel Arteta believes he can improve, with the rest of his defence largely set in stone.”

Postecoglou considered for England post

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou could be on the shortlist to replace Gareth Southgate.

The FA are currently drawing up a list of potential replacements, and the Telegraph believes the Australian will be considered.

The newspaper reports: “Ange Postecoglou is expected to be on the list of candidates being considered to become the next England manager.

“The Tottenham Hotspur head coach has been under surveillance by the Football Association for years.

“FA technical director John McDermott has followed Postecoglou’s career closely, from Australia to Japan, Scotland and now the Premier League, and is an admirer of his work.

“McDermott is currently drawing up an initial list of candidates to succeed Gareth Southgate. The FA has not ruled out the possibility of an interim manager taking charge of the Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland on September 7 and at home to Finland three days later.”

Reus ready to join MLS

The Daily Mail reports that former Borussia Dortmund striker Marco Reus could soon sign for MLS side LA Galaxy.

The German veteran left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season and is free to sign for the American team, whose season has already started.

The newspaper writes: “LA Galaxy are close to completing a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus.

“The Dortmund legend confirmed earlier this year that he would leave the club at the end of the 2023/24 season.

“It ended in heartbreaking fashion at Wembley in the form of a Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

“The LA Galaxy are currently third in the MLS Western Conference standings and fifth in the Supporters Shield race with a 12-7-5 record.”

West Ham awaits Todibo

West Ham are hoping to sign Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo but could be disappointed.

They have reached an agreement with the French club, but Todibo is hoping for a transfer to Juventus.

“The deal includes the option for the Hammers to sign Todibo permanently next summer for €32m (£26.8m).

“West Ham, however, face competition from Juventus and personal terms have yet to be agreed.

“Todibo would be a major signing for West Ham as the 24-year-old excelled in Ligue 1 last season. He made his France debut last year and has already been linked with a move to Manchester United.”
