Western Alamance alum Joshua Karty’s first NFL training camp begins next week.

Karty will wear uniform number 43 with his first professional team.

In May, multiple outlets, including Spotrac.com, reported that the Rams had signed Karty to a four-year, $4.15 million contract with a signing bonus of $138,388.

After a standout college career at Stanford, Karty was selected in the sixth round, 209th overall, in this spring’s NFL Draft.

After a highly successful high school career with Western, Karty, 22, spent four seasons at Stanford.

This next step as he embarks on his NFL career is sure to add to his array of experiences since high school.

“Here and at Western, it’s all pretty homogenous. Same type of people in general,” Karty said during the offseason. “… In the Bay Area, especially at Stanford, it’s a lot more of a mix. There’s a lot more social backgrounds, different people. Just a bunch of experiences that just wouldn’t have happened in Burlington, North Carolina.”

“I think I developed a different perspective on life just by meeting people from all sorts of places.”

The Rams players reported to training camp at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The team’s first preseason game will be Aug. 11 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Rams will open the regular season on September 8 at Detroit on NBC’s Sunday Night Football game, a rematch of last season’s playoff game.
