Mt. Vernon Stop & Shop to close, along with 31 other stores in five states

The Mount Vernon Stop & Shop, located at 240 East Sandford Blvd., is slated to close along with 31 underperforming stores, according to Stop & Shop’s website.

Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid said the mass closures are part of the company’s commitment to “creating a healthy foundation for future brand growth.” That commitment includes investments to improve pricing and the customer experience, the website said.

Workers at the closing Stop & Shop will be offered other opportunities within the company, the website states.

Stop & Shop will communicate specific store closing dates to local customers well in advance of any store closures, but all stores are expected to close no later than Nov. 2, the company said.

Following the closures, the company will continue to operate more than 350 stores in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Stop & Shop remains committed to serving its communities through additional stores, online shopping and home delivery services, the website said.
