Helena Faitelson, a San Diego artist and mother, said she fell in love with painting as a child. It started out as a hobby, but her mother decided to make it a career just five years ago. Since then, her career has taken off, having participated in the annual Liberty Station ArtWalk for the past five years.

“Every time I showcase the best of my collection,” Faitelson said. “The purpose of my art is to bring happiness to people and that’s what I want people who visit my booth to take away with them.”

Faitelson said his most significant work was a public project called “Sing for Hope” for the city of Beverly Hills.

“During the project, I painted the piano that was first displayed to the public and then donated to one of the city’s schools,” Faitelson said. “It was a very challenging and interesting project. I was one of 16 artists selected to participate and I enjoyed every minute of working on this project.”

Inspired by her five children and the nature around her, Faitelson said she plans to start a series of art classes to inspire other artists.

“I use my art as therapy and a fun activity,” Faitelson said. “I can see how much joy my art brings to my students and that makes me really happy.”

ArtWalk, which runs from August 2-4, will bring together 175 artists from several states and Mexico to exhibit and sell their work, including paintings, photography, glass and ceramics, jewelry and sculpture. For families, there will also be a KidsWalk hands-on art experience as part of the event, with a variety of activities for children.

“ArtWalk Liberty Station showcases art outdoors under sunny San Diego skies, allowing visitors to experience art in natural light in a beautiful setting surrounding a rose garden,” said Curt Brooker, Director of ArtWalk San Diego. “Participants can purchase art directly from the artists. It’s a memorable experience to meet the artists and learn what inspires them to create!”
