Woman Takes Grandpa to Special Dachshund Meet-Up—His Reaction Is Everything

Woman Takes Grandpa to Special Dachshund Meet-Up—His Reaction Is Everything

Knowing her grandfather’s deep admiration for dachshunds, a granddaughter took him to a special dog meet-up as a Father’s Day gift.

Lydia first learned about the dachshund meet-up from her sister who sent an Instagram post about the event, but she figured he wouldn’t want to go as it would be a two-hour trip. To her surprise, he was thrilled and they were off to Greenville, South Carolina, where her sister and mom live.

Together, they went to the plant shop that hosted the event and grandpa had a field day, which Lydia documented and shared in a June 24 TikTok video to her account @lydiasnontoxiclife. Stunned by the amount of dachshunds in one location, he couldn’t stop taking photos and petting the dogs.

“He had his phone out almost the whole time taking photos,” Lydia told Newsweek via email. “At one point, I asked him if he was ready to go but he was happy sitting in a chair in the corner watching the dogs.”

While he loved seeing all the dogs, the grandfather said in the clip that his Bingo is still cuter than all the others.

Bingo was her grandfather’s childhood dog, Lydia explained. He got the short-haired red dachshund in 1947 when he was 10 years old. They used to walk more than a mile together to get their mail from the post office almost daily.

He still talks about Bingo all the time. And now, after finding a film photo of Bingo while rummaging through boxes, he can look back and remember Bingo. Lydia sets the picture of Bingo as the background to her grandfather’s phone that he proudly showed off during the event.

“I’d like to encourage those with elderly people in their lives to find a way to cheer them up or to take them to an event that will bring them happiness,” Lydia said. “That was my whole motive behind taking my grandpa.”

TikTokers React

To say viewers are obsessed with the TikTok clip would be an understatement. As of Thursday, it reached more than 1.1 million views, 116,400 likes and 520 comments.

“This is quite possibly one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen,” a TikToker said.

A second one wrote: “This made him so happy!!! Great job!”

Another added: “He was in his element.”
