Fire breaks out in gym laundry room

A FIRE broke out in a gym.

Cheshire Fire Brigade were called to Apollo Park in Warrington late last night following reports of an automatic fire alarm being triggered.

Upon arrival at the gymnasium, apparently Athelis’s, crews discovered a fire in the laundry room.

Four fire engines and a lifting platform from Warrington, Lymm, Birchwood, Penketh and Stockton Heath fire stations were needed to tackle the blaze.

A spokesperson said: “Shortly before 1.15am, North West Fire Control received reports of an automatic fire alarm going off at a large commercial sports hall.

“Upon arrival, crews wearing breathing apparatus observed a developing fire in a laundry room and used a water jet with a hose reel to extinguish it.

“Further checks were carried out to ensure the fire had not spread and that the building was ventilated.”

Athelis has been contacted for further information.
