Oxford, NC (July 19, 2024) – According to local news sources, a man wanted for leading deputies on a high-speed chase exceeding 100 mph last weekend was apprehended on Friday after a second chase ended in a crash, as reported by the Granville County Sheriff.

The initial pursuit occurred on July 13 and spanned two counties. The suspect, identified as Kevin Ryan Lassiter, almost collided with two Granville County deputies during the chase, according to Granville County Sheriff Robert Fountain. The chase began around 2 pm when deputies attempted to arrest Lassiter on outstanding warrants. Lassiter fled into a Mercedes-Benz 300, reaching speeds over 100 mph, and later abandoned his vehicle in Vance County, evading capture.

Sheriff Fountain revealed that Lassiter was hiding in Vance County. When confronted on Friday, Lassiter fled again, this time in a Kia Sorento, reaching speeds of about 60 mph on back roads. The pursuit crossed back and forth between Vance and Granville counties. The chase concluded with a successful PIT maneuver by the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, which caused Lassiter’s SUV to overturn on Gillburg Road in Vance County. Lassiter sustained minor injuries, was treated at a nearby hospital, and was then held without bond in the Granville County Jail.

The charges from the first chase include felony flee/elude arrest and two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon upon governmental officers. Additional charges from both Vance and Granville counties are pending.
