A Sunday poll indicates that Jarosław Kaczyński is likely to step down as PiS leader after 2025

Jarosław Kaczyński He was considered the de facto leader of Poland during the Law and Justice (PiS) governments from 2005 to 2007 and again from 2015 to 2023, and has been the party’s undisputed leader since 2003. However, after the last general election in October and the formation of a new liberal government by Donald Tusk in December 2023, the party has entered into internal conflicts over the election results. Thus, Kaczyński faces criticism and even calls for his resignation to pave the way for a party renovation.

A poll conducted on Sunday by SW Research for the newspaper “Rzeczpospolita” indicates that 53.9% of Poles believe that Jarosław Kaczyński should stop being the PiS chairman after 2025, when his term as party chairman ends, while 16.5% support his continued presence (20.4% are indifferent and 9.2% have no opinion on the matter).

“Women are more numerous (62.3%) than men (44.3%) in opposition to Jarosław Kaczyński. The idea of a new term for the current PiS leader is supported by 16.5% of respondents. This percentage is higher among men (19.7%) than among women (13.6%). It is worth noting that according to the latest polls, PiS enjoys about 27-28% support. This means that a large group of voters of this party is against its leader,” the newspaper notes.

Polls show that the majority of Jarosław Kaczyński’s opponents are young people under 24 (66.2%). In addition, large cities with 200-499 thousand inhabitants (22.1%) and villages (18.5%) support the PiS leader. In cities with more than 500 thousand inhabitants (Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Lodz and Poznan), only 11.6% of respondents support his candidacy for a new term as PiS leader.
