Vehicle fire extinguished

A vehicle fire that broke out Sunday morning at the Lower Similkameen Indian Band’s Red Bridge Recreation Site was quickly extinguished by the Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department.

According to a statement from LSIB, the fire occurred at the recreation site south of Ashnola Campground at around 9am.

A couple were in town having breakfast when the fire broke out in their vehicle. There were no injuries, but one vehicle was damaged.

“(Two) LSIB members risked their own safety to ensure no one was inside when they spotted the fire and called 911,” reads a LSIB press release.

By 10:15 a.m., crews had successfully extinguished the fire.

On Wednesday, the LSIB issued an off-road travel ban in addition to its campfire ban due to hot and dry conditions.
