PPP/C should consider door-to-door registration now – Ramkarran

Commentator Ralph Ramkarran suggested yesterday that the ruling PPP/C party should consider creating a new national registry through door-to-door registration in order to “eliminate what would be a major distraction during the election campaign”.

In his column in yesterday’s Sunday issue of Stabroek, Ramkarran, who is a member of A New and United Guyana (ANUG), also suggested that non-residents who wish to register could be put on a separate list. He said there is now a window of time to begin the process which may close in a few months.

“The PPP would therefore be distracted during the election campaign by having to explain why the voters’ list is so large relative to the resident population. It would therefore be useful to consider the creation of a new national register through door-to-door registration in order to eliminate what would be a major source of distraction during the election campaign,” Mr Ramkarran said in his column yesterday.
