Sassoon Hospital doctors caught abandoning destitute patients

Pune: In a disturbing revelation, doctors at Pune’s government-run Sassoon Hospital have been caught abandoning destitute patients in remote areas.

The shocking misconduct was uncovered by social activists Dadasaheb and Ritesh Gaikwad, who laid a trap after suspecting foul play in the disappearance of a patient.

How was the incident discovered?

A patient admitted by Dadasaheb in Sassoon hospital went missing. This aroused suspicion and with the help of Ritesh he laid a trap. They admitted another patient in Sassoon hospital.

Meanwhile, early in the morning, Ritesh was waiting outside Sassoon with his rickshaw. A doctor named Aadi from Sassoon took the patient out, abandoned him at a secluded place and drove away with another staff member. Following this, Dadasaheb and Ritesh Gaikwad filed a complaint with the Yerawada police.

Eyewitness Statement

Ritesh Gaikwad, an eyewitness and complainant in the case, said, “Through Patient Support Foundation, we take care of destitute patients and those living on pavements by taking them to shelter homes.

In the meantime, we received information that Sassoon doctors were abandoning destitute patients in remote places instead of treating them. After learning this information, we laid a trap for two to three months.

Ritesh Gaikwad further explained, “Yesterday, while I was waiting outside Sassoon, a doctor named Adi approached and said he had to drop a patient.

He further explained that it is difficult to manage and treat destitute patients, which is why they abandon them in remote places. For this, they hire a rickshaw driver, whom they pay Rs 500 to 600.
