Utah State Cross Country Announces 2024 Schedule

Utah State Cross Country Announces 2024 Schedule

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Artie Guldenannounced Tuesday the cross-country schedule for its 2024 campaign.

“We are very excited about the upcoming cross country season,” Gulden said. “Our schedule is designed to give both teams the best chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships. We have a good mix of local meets as well as some more remote meets. These meets where we have to travel longer distances will give our kids the chance to compete against teams from other NCAA regions. If we can beat some of the top teams from other regions, it should give us a great chance to get back to the NCAA Championships in November.”

The cross country schedule features 10 meets, including the Mountain West Championships (Nov. 1 in Fort Collins, Colo.), the NCAA Mountain Regionals (Nov. 15 in Reno, Nev.) and the NCAA Championships (Nov. 23 in Madison, Wis.).

USU will open its season by hosting the Utah State Alumni Challenge on the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course on Saturday, Aug. 31.

Following their season-opening home game, the Aggies will head south for the BYU Autumn Classic on Friday, Sept. 13 in Provo, Utah. Utah State will finish the month in Riverside, Calif. for the UCR Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21.

In early October, USU will travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday, October 5. Six days later, the Aggies will return to Logan for their final home meet, the Steve T. Reeder Memorial Invitational on Friday, October 11.

Utah State will travel the country again for the 2024 Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Madison. USU wraps up its regular season in Salt Lake City for the Utah Open on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The Aggies will open their postseason on Friday, Nov. 1 with the Mountain West Championships in Fort Collins, Colo.

The NCAA Mountain Regionals will be held in Reno, Nevada on Friday, November 15. The NCAA Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 23 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Including its two home games, Utah State will play four total games in the state of Utah. The Aggies will compete in six different states with games also being held in California, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Colorado and Nevada.

To conclude the 2023 campaign, the Aggie women placed eighth (217 points) and the Aggie men took 10th (300) at the NCAA Mountain Regionals in Lubbock, Texas. Emma Thornley was named all-region, finishing 23rd with a time of 20:15.9.

Prior to regionals, both USU teams finished fifth at the Mountain West Championships in their respective races. Thornley earned first-team all-MW honors with her fourth-place finish in 20:23.3.
