Hansen Parker Announces Jeffrey Langenstein as First Staff Member

SEATTLE – Head gymnastics coach in Washington Jessa Hansen Parker announced the first member of its inaugural Husky coaching staff on Tuesday, with Jeffrey Langenstein remaining at Montlake as an assistant coach.

After spending the last three seasons on Washington’s staff, Langenstein will also serve as the GymDawgs’ recruiting coordinator.

“I am thrilled that Jeffrey will remain with the team,” said Hansen Parker. “He has been an incredible asset to the GymDawgs and will provide continuity to the team and be a tremendous resource for me. We began our NCAA coaching careers together, which makes this a particularly special and fulfilling moment for me. I am honored to coach alongside him and look forward to all the ways we can advance the program together.”

Since joining the UW team, Langenstein has led the floor choreography for the GymDawgs, helping the 2024 team achieve its fifth-highest floor score in program history. With a 49.525 at the NCAA Regional Round 2 in Berkeley, the FloorDawgs have posted four scores above 9.850 to etch their name into program history. Skylar Killough-Wilhelm and in second year Emilie Innes earned NCAA regional co-champion honors with his pair of 9.950s.

Langenstein guided her first student-athlete in Washington to the NCAA National Championships, while Killough-Wilhelm qualified as an individual all-arounder for the NCAA National Championships. Killough-Wilhelm, who earned first-team All-Pac-12 All-Around honors, co-regional champion on floor (9.950) and two-time Pac-12 Coaches’ Choice of the Week, earned her first All-American honors in Fort Worth, where she earned first-team All-American (bars) and second-team All-American (all-around) honors.

In 2023, Langenstein helped the GymDawgs reach their first NCAA Regional Final since 2018. The team posted a 196.775, its second-highest team score of the year, in the second round of the Los Angeles Regionals to advance to the regional final for the first time in five seasons. The team’s 196.775 helped the Huskies finish second in the regional, upsetting then-No. 12 Auburn and surpassing Southern Utah.

Langenstein helped lead Washington to its highest-ever regional score in the 2022 season, where they faced No. 5 Alabama, No. 12 Michigan State and BYU. Washington finished with a final team score of 197.175, the second time the Huskies have broken the 197 mark this season.

Langenstein joined the Washington gymnastics program in 2021 after three years as an assistant at San Jose State.

During his time with the Spartans, Langenstein helped the team finish second at the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships, where the team posted a record score of 195.450, the 11th-best mark in program history.
Prior to joining San Jose State, Langenstein spent two seasons as an assistant under former UW head coach Jen Llewellyn at Lindenwood. His primary responsibilities were on vault and floor, helping the team achieve the highest RQS in school history on vault and the second-highest on floor in 2017. He also served as recruiting coordinator and was named the 2018 MIC Assistant Coach of the Year.

Prior to Lindenwood, Langenstein worked alongside Hansen Parker at Cal as a volunteer assistant coach. He was part of the 2016 team that qualified for the NCAA Championships and finished seventh. That team finished the year ranked 11th nationally on the field. The 2015 team finished 18th nationally, while the field team earned a 12th-place national ranking.

While at Cal, Langenstein coached numerous top gymnasts, including Toni-Ann Williams, a 2016 Olympian for Jamaica. She was a six-time regular-season All-American, NCAA vault champion (2015), Pac-12 Rookie of the Year (2015) and Pac-12 floor champion (2016).

Langenstein became a coach after playing for the Golden Bears from 2010 to 2014. He specialized in floor, rings, vault and parallel bars. The team competed in four NCAA championships, finishing fourth in 2011 and 2012. He individually qualified for the NCAA semifinals multiple times on floor and vault.

Langenstein graduated from Cal with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in UW’s intercollegiate athletic leadership program.
