Traffic stop in Church Point leads to drug arrest

CHURCH POINT, Louisiana (KLF) — A Church Point man was arrested after a traffic stop last week and charged with drug and firearms offenses, authorities said.

Timothy Mattingly, 57, is charged with:

  • Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
  • possession of marijuana
  • possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs
  • possession of drug paraphernalia
  • follow too closely
  • driving under suspension

Church Point police said an officer conducted a traffic stop at 9:34 p.m. Thursday on N. Main Street in Church Point when another vehicle was following too closely. During the traffic stop, the officer learned the driver, Mattingly, was driving on a suspended license. During a search, a glass meth pipe with residue was found in his pants pocket, police said. Further investigation of the vehicle uncovered marijuana, nearly 2 ounces of crystal meth, a scale and a firearm.

Mattingly was booked into the Church Point Police Department and later transferred to the Acadia Parish Jail pending bail, which was set at $60,000.
