Bill Belichick Turned Down Shocking NFL Job Offer After Patriots Split

As teams around the league begin training camps and prepare for the 2024 season, the absence of New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick still looms large. After failing with the Atlanta Falcons, Belichick has since turned his attention to media jobs as negative reports about his preferred management style appear to be cooling his market.

However, it turns out that a big-name coach tried to jump at the chance to add Belichick as a coach – but he declined.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he was “shocked” that Belichick isn’t employed by a team right now. Shanahan then revealed that he offered Belichick any role he wanted on his team, even defensive coordinator, but Belichick declined.

It’s certainly surprising to hear that Belichicked turned down the opportunity. After all, with his stock at an all-time low, joining a Super Bowl contender and helping him succeed would give his perception across the NFL a much-needed boost.

That being said, it would be a demotion for one of the greatest coaches of all time. Considering he was a finalist for the Falcons job, it’s clear he could still be back in charge if he bides his time. And the six-time SB champion reportedly has a few openings lined up.

By staying out of the spotlight for a season, Belichick will be able to watch some of the HC candidates take the heat when their teams underperform. That will then allow him to re-enter the market as a top recruiting target, allowing him to get back in the saddle in 2025.
