Teacher arrested for alleged sexual assault on students

KUALA LUMPUR: Police yesterday arrested a teacher in Hulu Selangor for allegedly sexually assaulting several students.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said the physical education teacher, aged in his 30s, was arrested in Bukit Beruntung, Selangor, on Thursday after four reports were filed against him.

“Initial investigations have revealed that the first incident, which occurred a month ago, involved a 12-year-old boy.

“One of the locations of the incident was at a homestay in Ulu Yam area, while the victim was representing Hulu Selangor district in a football tournament,” Faizal said in a statement today.

He said police had opened four investigations against the man under section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

According to Faizal, further checks revealed that the man had no criminal record.

He said the suspect was remanded in custody for six days, until July 31.
