Superintendent of Police (SP) G. Bindu Madhav convened a meeting at the district police office here on Saturday with representatives of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), AP Transco, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Kurnool Municipal Corporation and police departments to tackle the growing traffic woes in Kurnool city.

Stressing the urgent need for inter-ministerial collaboration, Mr. Madhav urged officials to mitigate traffic woes and minimise road accidents by ensuring implementation of required safety measures. He proposed installation of more CCTV cameras on major roads and busy traffic areas to enhance crime prevention and rectification of inactive cameras, besides strategic placement of barricades, stoppers and warning signs at critical junctions.

Measures to facilitate unhindered movement of vehicles and efficient pick-up and drop arrangements at Kurnool RTC bus station should be explored to reduce traffic disruption, the SP said, suggesting facilitating night movement of trucks carrying goods from Kurnool railway station to warehouses.

City officials have been urged to expedite construction projects at busy intersections and examine potential obstructions caused by existing utility poles.

Officials of all departments affirmed their commitment to follow the SP’s directives and affirmed their concerted efforts to alleviate traffic problems. Various recommendations were submitted to address the overall traffic congestion problem in the city. NHAI officials of Mahbubnagar, Kadapa and Anantapur divisions briefed the SP about the ongoing and pending projects.
