FEES (3.00 Ascot, nap)

He looks ripe for the International. James Fanshawe’s flying horse won this show two years ago and has dropped weight since. He attracted attention last time out and seems to have been prepared for this show on one of his favourite tracks.

DEVOTED QUEEN (2.25 Ascot, nb)

She will make her rivals bend. Charlie Appleby’s filly has not yet made a single mistake and will have a lot to do against this motley team.

NEW CENTURY (4:15 p.m. Ascot, triple)

He can lift his bat. His form at Doncaster is working very well and he has the potential to be intelligent.

HANDCUFFED looks a safe bet. She was taken off the boards before her first win at Newbury and can now go straight into the race.

It’s impossible to jump to conclusions from her debut as Oisin Murphy barely had to touch her as she cruised to victory.

Her novice’s form looks OK without being too special, but she was in a different category and has plenty of pace.

Simmering is the horse they all have to beat. She is still a virgin after two races but lost narrowly to Fairy Godmother in the Albany.

This is by far the best form on offer. It has since been bought by Al Shaqab Racing and Ryan Moore takes the podium today.

Mandurah made a strong impression on his debut over the July course, but his form in that race has been derailed by several other beaten horses since.

Tales Of The Heart drops in class after a midfield arrival in The Duchess Of Cambridge and should not be ignored.

2.25

DEVOTED QUEEN will leave no one indifferent to her rivals. She has not made a single mistake in three starts and could well be in a different category.

Charlie Appleby’s three-year-old filly has been off since winning the Michael Seely at York in May, so something must have gone wrong at some point.

The form of this race has worked well and she has been touted as a filly for the Coronation Stakes. If that was realistic she should win this one.

The only concern is that she was enthusiastic and might be a little fresh after a break.

Soprano will probably have to recover if the selection fails to hit the mark. She won Sandringham at heavy weight and backed that up with a third in a Listed race on less than ideal ground.

Friendly Soul still has a lot to prove after losing her temper in the Musidora. The return to the mile will suit her and she looks to be a high price.

Sirona is rock solid at this level and was not disgraced at Falmouth last time out.

FRESH won this race in 2022 and proved he was back in form with an eye-catching second place here two weeks ago.

He is now 7lb lighter than he was in 2022 after a losing streak, but there is no doubt he is returning to form.

Billy Loughnane’s booking is a sign of confidence and he loves these big handicaps.

Being drawn high is generally acceptable in this race and all signs point to a great race.

Carrytheone could not have had a worse run in the Bunbury Cup when considered favourite and has a clear chance today.

He is in the same situation and was not beaten by miles at Buckingham Palace during the royal meeting.

Orazio was another case of bad luck last time out and he is capable of winning a big pot like this if the cards fall well.

Billyjoh only gained £2 for his Royal Ascot exploit but is still £12 more than his last win, which must be a cause for concern. Otherwise, a good run from heavyweight Make Me King should not be ruled out.

I’m in love with REBEL’S ROMANCE in the King George because Auguste Rodin can’t be trusted with equal money.

Charlie Appleby’s globetrotting star doesn’t get the respect he deserves despite making his millions everywhere.

It is no mean feat to travel to Hong Kong and win one of their big races. Before that, the six-year-old colt had caused a sensation in the Sheema Classic. The quicker he is, the better his chances.

Auguste Rodin has returned to the track with the Prince of Wales. It’s a big step in the right direction and his coach is convinced that the days of Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are behind him.

But there should not be such a difference between the two pairs in betting.

Bluestocking could do with a little more flexibility underfoot. But his connections have kept him out of Nassau next week, so that’s where the focus should be.

She deserves respect because she is a mare who rides and can make the boys work for her. She is not afraid of the pace.

Luxembourg is a top class athlete and should not be discounted. Sunway is developing into a near perfect horse but is a contender at every level.

Middle Earth is a good stayer, but his tendency to start slowly tends to put him on the defensive.

4.15

NEW CENTURY can raise his head. His last win at Doncaster was well publicised and the form has worked very well.

He made a big step forward from his debut to beat a smart group on Town Moor.

Favourite columnist Andrew Balding reckons he has a good chance and could be a horse to watch for the rest of the season with a good performance.

Chancellor was one of the few winning debutants for the Gosdens but it was no fluke as he won as he wanted despite his very large green.

The problem is that he has learned very little, because nothing could suit him and that could cost him dearly in a restricted but competitive field.

Al Qudra sets the standard after securing fifth place in Coventry.

But I think he could be vulnerable in this race which doesn’t look like a solid renewal. Brian needs more after a minor win last time out.

YORK

2.05

PAUL MIDGLEY has won this award three times since 2017 and his BIRKENHEAD must be a big player.

The seven-year-old colt won this race two years ago and is on target again today, arriving in fine form after easy wins at Lingfield and Catterick.

The only slight negative is the wide field. Woobay looked to be a step ahead of the handicapper when he last ran at Ripon. He was well supported and should have more to offer.

David O’Meara is another trainer targeting this breed and his Soul Seeker should not be ignored despite his recent form.

Ian Williams can field a contender for these sorts of races and his Night On Earth is even more interesting if he wins money. It’s a big drop in class for the six-year-old.

Golden Rainbow missed out at Beverley but if he returns to form he could be a tough opponent.

2.40

The wily Karl Burke has blown the KORKER away. The Yorkshire rider is having a memorable season and his sprinter can make the most of a drop in class.

He holds the stakes record behind Believing and Starlust and was sent out strongly for a red-hot handicap here at the Dante meeting.

He is now lower in weight and in form as he was back in form here last time. The move to 1,200 metres is a wise decision.

Trefor is the one they have to beat on paper. He is chasing a hat-trick after wins at Windsor and Newmarket. York is a different track and he is another 8lbs up for grabs.

Silky Wilkie is reliable but has not won since April last year and the handicapper continues to give him no respite.

Bergerac will come strong and late, but his style is better suited to tracks like Newcastle.

3.15

Write off ALFLAILA at your peril. Owen Burrows’ horse is back to defend his crown and has since run two Group 1s brilliantly.

In the Prince Of Wales he was caught on the heels in the straight and was never able to get into top gear.

It was after a lay-off and he will be much livelier today. He is a quiet traveller and York suits him. Passenger is the big threat after his crushing win at Chester.

But he has suffered some setbacks since and still has plenty to prove on his return. His victory at Huxley was bolstered by Israr.

Three-year-old King’s Gambit made full weight and should have won the Hampton Court at Ascot.

This is the first time he’s attacked his elders and he needs even more.

Royal Rhyme is best with a little juice underfoot.
