Reader’s message:

Arrive at Hilton Dubai Jumeirah around 12:00 local time today. Enjoy a wonderful upgrade to a Family Executive Suite in LTD.

No mention of any issues, but upon returning to the room around 8:30pm local time, there was a note under the door stating that there was no electricity tomorrow, including no air conditioning! Forecast 42°C with a feel-good temperature of 50°C and above.

Hotel Reviews:

It’s very hot in the Gulf right now, and residents who can escape the heat are doing so, and hotel rates are really low.

There is no excuse for not informing customers in advance of this power outage if it was indeed planned.

The hotel has a list of incoming guests, and it shouldn’t be difficult to email those who have reservations during this outage period.

Conclusion

The main reason for informing guests in advance is to allow them to better plan their stay and perhaps encourage them to go to a shopping mall or cafe with air conditioning during those two hours.

If there is no electricity on the property, there is not much you can do, including use Wi-Fi. You can continue to use mobile data, of course, but only if your devices are charged or you are using one or more power banks.

I would not have had a problem with this if the hotel had properly informed the guests in advance or even earlier in the day. This outage appears to be nothing more than a planned outage, or the hotel was not organized to inform its guests.

You could claim 10,000 HH points for the inconvenience of moving elsewhere during this outage period.
