New details from Strictly taping revealed – as Amanda tells Giovanni ‘you probably want to throw me out the window’

NEW details have emerged from a secret recording made by Strictly Come Dancing pro Giovanni Pernice of Amanda Abbington, revealing six-and-a-half minutes of a tense exchange.

The recording is believed to have been made during the couple’s final weeks of tense dancing for rehearsals for the show.

Amanda says, “I know I’m a nightmare” and “You probably want to throw me out the window.”

Relatives of Italian dancer Giovanni have presented the recording as “smashing evidence” that would clear his name.

But The Sun can reveal that a source close to Amanda said: “The tape was presented as explosive evidence but it’s the type of daily discussion that takes place between partners and pros in rehearsals, which can, of course, be very tense.

“The idea that this is some kind of ‘irrefutable proof’ that would exonerate Giovanni of his alleged behavior is absurd.

“The transcript is just a dialogue between the two men, Amanda is being self-deprecating and was clearly trying to cope with a difficult situation, she had no idea Giovanni was secretly recording her.”

Pernice, 33, believes this, along with other messages in which the couple say “I love you,” will clear his name.

A decision on the BBC’s internal investigation is expected late next week.

Amanda, 50, revealed on Channel 4 last week that some of the alleged bullying against her was of a sexual nature.

The interview was conducted by Krishnan-Guru Murthy, who appeared as a contestant on the same show as Amanda.

He said he had heard of one case that could be described as sexual behavior, asking: “Is that correct?”

The former Sherlock actress replied: “Yeah, I mean, you know, one of many things.”

A spokesperson for Amanda said: “These details don’t change anything: as Amanda has made clear on numerous occasions, including when asked in an interview last week, she has done her best to make things work.

“That meant being open with Giovanni about her own flaws as a dancer and being aware that it must have been difficult for him.

“The fact that these comments are now being presented as some form of excuse for the harassment Amanda has suffered is as unacceptable as the behaviour itself, behaviour that Amanda is not alone in experiencing.”

Giovanni’s spokesperson said: “We urge people to wait for the investigation to be completed and to ignore these very serious and defamatory allegations which are not supported by any evidence.”

Earlier this month, Sicilian professional footballer Graziano Di Prima, 30, was sent off for kicking his celebrity partner Zara McDermott, 27.

“At the same time, if anyone feels there has been a problem or wants to talk about their experience, of course we want them to talk to us. Rest assured that we will take the situation seriously, listen to it and deal with it appropriately.”

Former Paralympian Will Bayley, 36, told The Sun his time on the show left him with “wounds that still affect me today”.

Last week, BBC boss Tim Davie expressed his “sorry” to alleged victims of the Strictly scandal at the launch of the corporation’s annual report.

Mr Davie said the door remained open to further complaints, but he was confident the changes would protect new competitors.

He said: “I’m sorry that anyone had an experience on Strictly that wasn’t entirely positive. It’s something we’re reflecting on and I’m sorry about that.”

“There are clearly lessons to be learned regarding oversights in the training rooms that we had to correct.

“Looking back, you always look at these things and think we could have done more, of course we could have, but the main thing here is to tackle the situation.

“But I believe the measures we have taken are an appropriate and fair response to what we know now to ensure that in the training rooms we have the right oversight and that people have a positive experience participating in the show.

“I think overall hundreds of people attended the show and had a positive experience. It’s not fair to say we didn’t have significant duty of care provisions.”
