The Age of Secession – LewRockwell

The Age of Secession – LewRockwell

Secession is a concept that has been regularly derided by most who have held power over the years. The common phrase one hears is, “How can the people keep the peace without the rulers deciding things for them?” As the world falls further and further apart due to incompetent ruling classes, it is becoming increasingly clear to ordinary people that this dismissive rhetoric has no basis in reality. Many people are opening their minds to rediscover a principle that helped give birth to the American nation: that ordinary people can govern themselves. Newcomers around the world in favor of self-determination will begin to look for ways to put their ideas into practice, and they will surely discover that America’s founders achieved self-government by breaking away from a corrupt system—in short, by seceding.

In recent years, few ordinary citizens have paid attention to secession movements like those in Scotland in 2014 or Catalonia in 2017. Today, however, corruption and elite hubris have led to a rapid deterioration of societies around the world. This is prompting people to seek solutions that directly address the root causes of the problems that are now becoming very painful to them. The origins of these urgent problems lie in the political realm, and as the ruling classes stifle the traditional avenues of political change, namely elections and electoral opposition, citizens have been forced to seek other means of effectively solving problems. It is this development, more than anything else, that is driving the growing popularity of “secession as a solution” today.

Europe

Secessionist movements and general independence sentiment are growing at a rapid pace around the world. Some secessionist movements are more advanced than others, but all are growing. Across Europe, where citizens are clearly suffering from elite failures, secessionist sentiment is growing so fast that in many cases the leaders of former empires are being forced to shift from intimidation to negotiation as their power structures collapse.

In Spain, Catalan independence has undergone a spectacular transformation in the last eighteen months. an object of mockery for the elite classes in January 2023but their position was reversed become the “kingmakers” in the formation of the new Spanish government following 2023 elections. This resulted in an amnesty law that decriminalized the practice of calling for independence from Spain and gave new life to the Catalan separatist movement. It also appears to have inspired growing support for separatist movements in other parts of northern Spain, such as the basque provinces And Galicia.

France too is facing a future that seems doomed to rupture. After having been unceremoniously ousted from his position of influence in Central AfricaThe French elites tried to maintain the nation’s position as an actor on the world stage, particularly in relation to the conflict in Ukraine with their bellicose rhetoric towards RussiaIt seems to be an act that covers a very fragile internal situation where protests on multiple issues agriculture has immigration shook the country to its foundations. Emboldened, The separatists of the island of Corsica took advantage of this opportunity to force President Macron to the negotiating table to discuss their demands.. In the meantime, Separatist movements in Brittany, French Catalonia and other regions have been revived and will likely be able to take similar steps in the near future.

Even Europe’s recent historic powers, Britain and Brussels, are being torn apart by separatist forces. Brussels, the capital of the European Union and home to NATO, is facing the prospect of being surrounded by Eurosceptic territory if a local Flemish secessionist party, seeking independence from both Belgium and the European Union, manages to take control of Flanders in the not too distant futureBritish elites face even greater pressure as the last vestige of their greatest empire, the British Commonwealth, heads towards dissolution, with several Commonwealth countries planning to leave. In its original territory Electoral discontent is highand several movements arose which sought to divide the British Isles into several countries. discussions on reforming Scottish nationalism And hold a second referendum on independenceIn Wales, the Welsh Nationalist Party seems to be gaining electoral popularity And Polls show growing support for independence which could soon turn into more intense political activismNorthern Ireland voters recently voted Sinn Fein into power, a party with intentions negotiate secession from Britain and reunification with the Republic of Ireland. Even in the far north, Orkney Islands consider seceding from Britain to gain independence or join a neighbouring nation.

Africa, Asia, Oceania

The vestiges of colonialism and totalitarianism in Africa, Asia and Oceania are showing their true nature as their grip weakens and demands for freedom and local governance multiply. Several countries in Central Africa appear to be shedding the last vestiges of European colonialism. The recent expulsion of French influence from several colonies in the region over the past five years is a consistent sign of this trend. In other countries on these three continents, colonial and totalitarian influences are creating an untenable situation for the peoples of their respective territories. This is pushing them to seek separation from the powers corrupted by these influences.

In Nigeria a trial of a CBDC program by the elites failed spectacularly due to its massive cancellation by the Nigerian population. THE economical consequences of the attempt to implement the CBDC, as well as with the continued violence of the terrorist group Boko Haram (another disease of western origin), is now pushing people in different parts of Nigeria to seek their own solutions through self-governance. Biafran independence movement, long suppressed in southeastern Nigeria is begins to find his voice again As they face the added burden of discrimination from the national government and its dominant factions, the Yoruba people of southwestern Nigeria have recently taken steps to assert their independencewhat left Nigerian politicians in a state of perplexity as they attempt to regain control of their country.

Further down the coast in South Africa, The economic collapse and widespread racial tensions, exacerbated by Marxist political parties, created some instability. As a result, many people outside the circles of power took matters of peace and autonomy into their own hands. In the Western Cape province, with its unique culture, racial mix and economic situation, an independence movement is rapidly gaining popularity. His growing popularity has now begun to alarm many of the elites holding political power in South Africa, who resort to baseless accusations of racism and apartheid to stop them. North-east of Cape Town, the Afrikaner people of the Orania communityare slowly establishing themselves their economic independence from the rest of South Africa’s failing economy. Many see this as a step towards the establishment of an independent state for the Afrikanerswho were also labelled racists and apartheid sympathisers by South Africa’s elites.

Across the Indian Ocean, in the former Spanish-American colony of the Philippines, a major political crisis is unfolding between two major political factions in the country. One is beholden to American interests that seek to participate in escalating tensions with China, and the other seeks to preserve peace by seeking good relations with all its neighbors. While one faction dominates and continues tensions with China, the other proposed that its main support base, the island of Mindanao, separate from the rest of the Philippines and pursue its own pathAlthough the reaction from many political leaders in the country has been considerable, the proposal has sparked a debate in the country regarding the grievances that Mindanao has been suffering from other parts of the country for several years.

Finally, on the neighboring continent of Oceania, two different islands seek independence as a solution to the problems caused by outdated political ties, while a third island weighs its options. Bougainville Island seeks to resolve a situation that has lasted for sixty years. where its resources have been exploited and mismanaged by elitist corporatists without any benefit to the island’s population. They are now awaiting final approval of a national divorce agreement in which they would separate from Papua New Guinea and assert control over their own resources for the benefit of their people. Near the island of New Caledonia, Growing local agitation for secession proved a challenge to the French in their attempt to retain control of one of their last colonies.. Finally, the inhabitants of the island of Yap, in response to reported to be neglected by their leaders within the Micronesian governmentrecently approved a referendum measure calling for a reassessment of their statuswhich includes exploring the secession option.
