Can my Samsung amp be paired with Temu speakers? Best Buy warns

The customer isn’t always right, but not everyone wants to take on the challenge of proving them wrong. That’s exactly the predicament Dallas (@dallas_ponso) found himself in one day while working at Best Buy. In a TikTok video that went viral and has been viewed over 921,000 times, Dallas recounts this particular complaint.

“Yesterday a customer came to me with a piece of paper that said ‘two-channel wireless projector’. He handed it to me and asked, ‘Do you have any?’”

A quick search on the Best Buy app revealed that no such item was in stock.

“I took out my phone and looked in the app, and it only had regular spotlights, so I turned my phone over. I said, ‘I don’t think so. I only see regular spotlights.’”

Is the dual channel wireless adapter really a real product?

After informing the customer that the item wasn’t in stock at Best Buy, Dallas suggested he check Google to see if it was available at nearby stores. There was just one problem.

“Except when I typed it into Google, the product didn’t even really exist. At least, I couldn’t find it. A two-channel wireless projector just didn’t exist. I kept finding links to regular projectors,” Dallas continued.

Dallas surveyed the client with a few questions to determine exactly what he was looking for.

“I asked, ‘Who told you you needed this thing?’ and he said, ‘The guy at Walmart. He said it was everything I needed to connect my home theater speakers, surround sound speakers, and subwoofer.’”

“I asked him if he meant a two-channel amplifier. We have those.” He said, “I have no idea. I don’t know anything about that.” I said, “Well, I’ll take you there and I can show you.”

As Dallas recounts, once he and the customer got to the amps, the customer refused to buy one because of the price (starting at $200) and then insisted on seeing the $40 adapter instead.

“I kept telling him we didn’t have it and he wouldn’t accept it, he just wouldn’t believe it. So eventually I asked him, ‘What brand of subwoofer do you have?’ and he said, ‘Oh, it’s a Samsung.’”

After a few more questions, Dallas finally turned to Google for answers.

“So I searched, ‘Do Samsung wireless subwoofers connect to any other brand of speaker?’ and it said no, unless it’s the soundbar that came with the subwoofer,” Dallas said.

“I said, ‘Well, it doesn’t connect to any other speakers, but it will connect to your TV via Bluetooth,’ and showed him the information on the Samsung website.”

This surprised the customer, as he was adamant that the speakers were compatible with the Samsung subwoofer.

“And he said, ‘No, you can definitely connect these speakers that I have. They’re advertised to do that.’ I said, ‘And what brand of speakers are they?’ And he said, ‘Oh, I don’t know. I don’t remember. I got them a year ago.'”

“I asked, ‘Do you remember where you bought them?’ and he said, ‘Yes, I bought them from Temu.’

The incredulous look on Dallas’ face says it all.

After a pause, Dallas continued his story. “I said, ‘Well, there’s a good chance it won’t connect to the subwoofer. The website says it won’t. I don’t think there’s a workaround.’”

The customer defiantly decides that Dallas can’t help him, but that another Best Buy employee might be able to.

“He says, ‘Well, there probably is, but thanks for your time,’ and walks away… (to) ask my colleague for the same article, and says I told him we had it.”

Dallas concludes the video with an ending to the story that was predictable to almost everyone except the client.

“My coworker did some research and eventually told him the same thing I did, and then after about 30 minutes the guy finally accepted that it wasn’t going to work and left the building.”

In Temu we have confidence?

Temu is a Chinese-owned online marketplace known for selling discounted items. It often gives away products to people who post about its products.

Since its launch in America in 2022, the app has become one of the most downloaded apps. As Time magazine wrote in 2022:

“But the company, a U.S. subsidiary of Chinese e-commerce giant Pinduoduo, is also starting to develop a reputation for undelivered packages, mysterious charges, incorrect orders and unresponsive customer service. Temu has already been the subject of more than 30 complaints to the Better Business Bureau and has a BBB customer rating of less than 1.5 stars.”

Several people in the comments section were amazed by this customer’s confidence in any electronic product purchased from Temu.

“Hearing (‘off Temu’) would have put me in an early grave,” read one comment.

“I remember when no one used eBay because they were afraid of getting scammed, but now people use sites like Temu without a second thought,” someone else said.
