Deadpool and Wolverine We’ve seen a ton of cameos from Marvel movies of the past, mostly from 20th Century Fox. Fans everywhere were left speechless when Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, Channing Tatum, Dafne Keen, and Chris Evans appeared on screen as their former Marvel characters. But despite all the returning actors, there were a few that didn’t make the cut. Some actors (surprisingly) were never called back by Marvel. When they appeared on Josh Horowitz’s series, Happy Sad Confused In the podcast, director Shawn Levy confirmed who he asked to return and which actors he never thought to ask back.

Rumors have been swirling all year about Patrick Stewart returning as Professor X. Yet despite those rumors, Shawn Levy never really considered Stewart returning for Deadpool and Wolverine. On the Happy Sad Confused In his podcast, Levy even said, “It was never about him.” He did, however, clarify that actress Emma Corin, who plays Xavier’s evil twin sister Cassandra Nova, had studied her performance carefully.

Another Charles Xavier, James McAvoy, also confirmed that they never invited him back. However, he had to give his consent for his footage to be used in the end credits montage. He said VarietyWhen asked if Marvel Studios might return, “No, no, no, no. Not this one. I don’t think so. If there was a world, they clearly threw that idea out the window before they called me, so no.”

Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider

He’s not an X-Men character, or even a Fox Marvel hero, but Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that he had conversations with Nicolas Cage back as Ghost Rider. He didn’t really elaborate on what happened to those conversations. All Reynolds told Collider “It definitely sparked a conversation. Yeah, but no.” Maybe Cage didn’t want another CGI Superman situation like in The Flash? We wouldn’t blame him.
