American Tourist Orders Margarita With Salt On The Rim And Is Shocked By The Result

Vacationing abroad often requires some language skills to get by, and while these two American tourists thought they had mastered Italian, it turned out there was a major flaw in their understanding.

After thinking they ordered a margarita cocktail, TikTok user @sploww posted a hilarious video revealing what actually happened to their table. When the waiter arrived, they didn’t have a cocktail in their hand, but a Margherita pizza instead.

To top it all off, the New Yorker requested that the cocktail be accompanied by “salt on the rim” of the glass, but due to a misunderstanding, the chef sprinkled salt on the pizza crust instead.

The video has left social media users in hysterics and in just a few days it has already accumulated more than 959,100 views and more than 106,500 likes.

Luckily, the couple weren’t too put off by the random pizza’s arrival, as the TikToker said it was “the funniest thing that ever happened” during their vacation in Messina, Italy.

Learning the language can be a huge help when travelling abroad. But a recent YouGov poll showed that picking up a dictionary and learning the language isn’t for everyone.

Globally, two in five consumers are willing to learn the basics of a new language before traveling, but 38% of Americans say they don’t bother learning anything before flying.

American millennials are the most likely of all generations to learn the basics of a new language, at 53%. That number isn’t as high among their older counterparts, with only 36% of Gen Xers reportedly following suit.

Luckily, the couple was finally able to get their hands on some margaritas, as the TikToker shared a clip of them successfully ordering two cocktails.

Since the video went viral, it has already garnered over 1,200 comments on TikTok.

One comment reads: “I would just accept my fate in silence. The universe has decided.”

Another TikToker wrote: “Imagine the pizza delivery guy’s reaction when he saw the receipt.”

Others shared their own linguistic disasters, as one commenter wrote: “I ordered a pepperoni pizza and got nothing but peppers.”

Another person joked: “Lol, I recently had a pizza with fries as a topping. I need to learn Italian.”
