Authorities in major cities in Punjab, including Lahore, are on high alert due to the threat of urban flooding as monsoon rains intensify.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has issued directives to all deputy commissioners of the province to remain vigilant and ensure preparedness for any emergency.

DG PDMA stressed that the relevant departments must remain vigilant to deal with any emergency and asked the city administrations to maintain a heightened state of preparedness.

Continuous monitoring of the situation is carried out 24 hours a day from the PDMA control room.

Rescue services, including 1122, have been instructed to keep personnel and equipment on alert. In addition, the PDMA has given priority to the rapid drainage of water from low-lying areas.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, there is a probability of monsoon rains in most districts of Punjab during the next 24 hours with the rainy spell expected to persist till August 12.

Citizens are advised to exercise caution, stay away from utility poles and overhead wires, and avoid fragile or dilapidated structures.

Parents are advised to closely supervise their children and prevent them from approaching stagnant water in low-lying areas. In case of emergency, the public is advised to contact the PDMA helpline on 1129.
