50% off Old Navy Tech Hybrid Shorts and 5-Pocket Pants

50% off Old Navy Tech Hybrid Shorts and 5-Pocket Pants

Let’s cut to the chase. Old Navy’s Tech Hybrid Chino Shorts and Pure Performance 5-Pocket Pants aren’t enough as good as Lululemon’s popular ABC Warpstreme options.

But considering their similarities (see below), Old Navy pants cost a lot less. I mean… with this 50% off sale, Old Navy pants are literally $100 less than Lululemon’s ABC pants.

$128 lululemon warpstreme ABC layered under the Old Navy Tech Hybrid Chino.
Performance twill fabric is very similar in feel and appearance.
Same metal rod at the front.
And when it comes to the shorts option, they even have the same snaps at the back.

But for the sake of accuracy, here’s what you might notice as different looks and feels:

  • Old Navy “Tech Hybrid Chino” 5-Pocket Shorts and Pants not have a crotch gusset. It’s essential for many. Here’s what a crotch gusset is and why it’s important.
  • The fabric of Old Navy shorts and pants is also comfortable to wear. tiny a little lighter. But not as light as Target’s All in Motion golf pants.
  • Finally, and this is a hard thing to prove, Old Navy shorts and pants may not feel as well-constructed as Lululemon’s ABC warpstreme pants and shorts. At least, that’s how it feels to me. They may stretch a little more when you wear them and tighten up a little more in the washer/dryer.

But overall, they look so similar to Lululemon’s pricey options that once you put them on, you’d be forgiven for forgetting there’s a big difference.

Ready? Let’s jump into some picks from this 50% off activewear sale for 48 hours through Monday:

50% off Old Navy Tech Hybrid Shorts and 5-Pocket Pants

Size shown: 32×32 Fits 5’10″/185

Full performance material. No cotton blend. They move well and are comfortable to wear even in very hot weather. This is the closest thing to Lululemon’s ABCs. Even a step closer to Lululemon than Target’s All in Motion 5-Pocket. But there are a few key differences: There is no gusset underwear to facilitate movement. The fabric could be a little lighter (but not as light as Target’s All in Motion golf pants). And They are a little longer in the leg than the Lululemon. Some may feel the need to turn up the cuffs or have them hemmed. There is also no option for chino/trouser pocket layout. Just 5-pocket styles (patch pockets on each cheek at the back, cut out at the front like a pair of jeans).

Same fabric and pocket configuration as the slim fits, but in a more accommodating/athletic straight cut.

Full review here. This is the purchase that started the whole “wow, these look a lot like Lululemon” party. Note that while the term “hybrid” is often used to indicate that there is some sort of swimsuit-style lining, these do not have one and are not intended for swimming. These are not swim/hike/workout/lounge shorts. They are designed to be styled like what most of us would consider a “normal” pair of shorts.

And now some bonuses, non-“hybrid technology” choices. Because this sale is about more than just their competing 5-pocket pants and shorts from Lululemon…

Size listed: M for 5’10″/185lbs

Surprisingly awesome. Impressively soft. Very stretchy. The fabric is 47% recycled polyester / 46% polyester / 7% spandex. That’s a lot of spandex, and the result is a tee that really moves with you. They’re labeled “performance” tees, and sure, you could work out in them, but they feel more like a “cool” tee. You know, the ones you reach for when you want to look put-together but still look casual/dressy.

Size listed: M for 5’10″/185lbs

Same super soft fabric as the t-shirts, but in polo form. Think of these as cheaper and even lighter (like a featherweight) alternatives to the Target All in Motion Polo. The 93% polyester/7% spandex performance fabric offers stretch and wicking properties. Soft. Has an almost brushed finish in the hand. So lightweight that the collar doesn’t feel as sturdy. It might not look the sharpest as the day goes on. But if it’s really hot and you want to wear something more than a t-shirt but still feel casual, then these are the ones to go for. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low. Always a plus.

Big thanks to reader Alex C. who says these Performance Vent tees have a much closer training tee feel to the fabric than the CloudSoft line. They are also tighter under the arms. So know that from a fit and feel perspective. Very airy and perfectly perforated. The raglan sleeves and 12% spandex should allow these tees to move well. Lots of potential here.

Old Navy’s 50% off activewear sale expires tomorrow, Monday 8/12/24.
