Nike SB’s ‘Wizard of Oz’ Dunks Are Surprise Hits

Fresh off a super exclusive solid white Dunk, Nike SB returns with an incredibly bold Dunk Low collaboration… that may also be hard to add to cart.

Following rumors of its existence, Nike SB’s “Wizard of Oz” Dunks have finally made their appearance – or dare I say, landed in Australia’s sleepy poppy field.

Indeed, Nike’s Dunks are entirely wrapped in a floral poppy-patterned material, which references the scene where Dorothy falls asleep in the mysterious poppy field known to make people tired (sometimes, forever!).

Elsewhere on the floral shoe, the Wizard of Oz Dunks features ruby ​​red hues, similar to the color of Dorothy’s famous sparkly heels.

Early rumors suggested that the sneaker’s colorway would reference Dorothy’s shoes. Many likely hoped that the resulting Dunks would sparkle and shine like them, perhaps with a few touches of glitter — or even a full-on glitter bath like the Air Jordan 1 Legends of Summer sneaker.

A bit of sheen is found around the Dunk’s tongue and ankle, which appear to be wrapped in silky red satin.

On the insole, we find the Wicked Witch of the West and one of those scary flying monkeys, cleverly nestled around a Nike SB crystal ball. At the same time, Dorothy’s iconic phrase, “no place like home,” blends into the poppy background of the heel.

In 2015, Dorothy received another Nike skate shoe, whose red laces referenced the ruby ​​slippers that would take her home (or wake her from her dream? It remains a mystery). The chunky Dunk also featured neat gingham linings and black-and-white gradient uppers inspired by Dorothy’s dress and her transition to the magical land of Oz.
