X Collapses After Trump-Musk Interview ‘Space’ Crashes Immediately

Critics have decried technical difficulties that hampered X owner Elon Musk’s highly anticipated interview with former President Trump.

X users rushed to join Trump’s “Space” where he was supposed to speak with the billionaire tech mogul about the 2024 presidential race. However, the “Space” immediately crashed due to the influx of users, displaying the message “This Space is not available.”

Moments later, Musk addressed X, telling users: “There appears to be a massive DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack on 𝕏. We are working to shut it down. In the worst case, we will proceed with a reduced number of live listeners and publish the conversation later.”

In response to an X user who speculated that Democrats were involved in the tech crisis, Musk wrote, “Yeah.”

Musk then insisted that X was technically prepared for the Trump interview, posting: “We tested the system with 8 million concurrent listeners earlier today.”

“We will proceed with the lowest number of concurrent listeners at 8:30am ET and then publish the unedited audio immediately thereafter,” Musk added.

The interview officially began after about 40 minutes. At least 1 million X users joined in the beginning of the relaunched conversation.

Critics have responded to the viral controversy.

“Please let Elon know we can’t join,” billionaire investor Bill Ackman told Trump.

“Trump was furious with NABJ when their technical difficulties kept him waiting for 30 minutes. Now he’s waiting again, and of course, much of the media coverage is going to focus on the technical crisis, no matter what he says. He won’t be happy,” wrote Breaking Points co-host Saagar Enjeti.

New York Times reporter Jonathan Swan criticized Musk’s previous promise, saying, “Entertainment guaranteed!”, responding, “I’ll take functionality guaranteed!”

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung later posted a photo of Trump looking at his phone, with the caption “BREAK THE INTERNET!”

The social media meltdown happened in a similar way last year during the launch of the presidential campaign of Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who had also scheduled an interview with Musk on his platform (then Twitter) but experienced technical malfunctions due to high traffic from “Spaces.”

The interview was meant to mark Trump’s grand return to the platform after the company, previously owned by Twitter, banned him in 2021 following the January 6 riots. Shortly after Musk bought Twitter and changed the company’s name to X, he reinstated Trump’s account.
