Two people have been arrested after a man in his 20s was shot in the back and his car was thrown off the road in a small village.

CCTV footage captured the moment of the shocking attack, which took place on a quiet residential street in broad daylight on Monday, August 5.

Armed police attended the scene after being called to the scene in Great Wyrley, near Wolverhampton, at around 8.25pm.

The man was taken to hospital by paramedics with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Staffordshire Police said they have since arrested a 26-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder.

On Tuesday, August 13, CCTV footage was shared online showing the moment of the attack.

In the video, a black car can be seen being pushed by a black hatchback before it rear-ended into a hedge and a parked car.

Two people, one dressed entirely in black and the other wearing a blue tracksuit, run toward the wreckage as the driver gets out.

He then climbs onto the roof of the vehicle before spotting the couple and jumping through a fence in an attempt to escape.

Up to three gunshots were then heard before the two people on foot jumped into the tailgate which hit the victim’s car before it drove away.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 8, Staffordshire Police said: “We have arrested a man and a teenage boy after a man suffered a suspected gunshot wound in Great Wyrley.

“At 8.25pm ​​on Monday evening (August 5) we were called to Field Lane after someone heard an alleged gunshot.

“Armed officers attended the scene and found an injured man, aged around 20. He had a back injury consistent with a gunshot.

“He was taken to hospital by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service. His injuries are not life-threatening.

“Detectives have been investigating what happened, reviewing CCTV and carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area.

“A 26-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Wolverhampton, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Both are being questioned in custody.”

Following the incident, Conservative MP Sir Gavin Williamson, whose constituency of Stone, Great Wyrley and Penkridge covers the scene of the shooting, took to Facebook to urge witnesses to contact police.

He wrote: “I am very grateful for the swift action that has been taken by Staffordshire Police following this shocking incident in Great Wyrley.

“Great Wyrley is a wonderful and diverse village – incidents of this nature are thankfully rare, but they do cause understandable anxiety and concern in the community.

“Please contact the police if you have any information about this, and I advise against speculating on social media to allow the legal process to continue.”
