Asyraf Wajdi: Umno general assembly to be held behind closed doors this year, unity government leaders not invited

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Umno today announced it would not invite senior leaders of the ruling coalition to its general assembly this month, and informed them of its decision.

Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party wants this year’s meeting to focus on internal affairs.

“We issued invitations last year, and God willing, we will issue invitations next year or the year before the general election,” he said at a press conference reported by Free Malaysia Today.

“This year, we are giving the extended Umno family a space to discuss family issues.”

Last year, the event was attended by, among others, Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Parti Amanah Negara president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

The Umno general assembly will be held from August 21 to 24.
