In the five-issue Batman – Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns, horrors haunt the Christmas season as drained bodies litter the countryside, each marked with a strange symbol. The Justice League responds, but it’s a trap! The heroes are removed from our world, but not before Batman helps Robin escape. Now, Damian Wayne must search for Zatanna and the one and only Santa if there’s any hope of saving their friends and family. Santa comes to the aid of the DCU heroes in the crossover sequel event you’ve been waiting for! And you must have been especially wise because a wintry mashup of DC’s craziest characters arrives this time to take on a powerful foe… the Silent Knight!

Jeff Parker: “I was blown away by the reception to last year’s SILENT KNIGHT series. Readers really responded when we went all out with the Norse Santa in the DCU. We followed the old tradition of telling ghost stories at Christmas (remember the “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” line?). Then I was asked if I wanted to do another one AND have an extra issue? It was the right year.”

Lukas Ketner: “The first SILENT KNIGHT series wasn’t quite what I expected, and I loved it for that. Jeff has an incredible ability to take an idea like a Batman and Santa team-up and play it straight with a great story, new DC lore, and a real threat. There’s humor, of course, but it’s so much more effective when the stakes are real.”

Jeff Parker: “Once Lukas started working on SILENT KNIGHT RETURNS, our inboxes exploded with visuals better than anyone could have imagined. The Bat Office got us off to a great start and early, so we had that rare planning time to really build the story and create a creepy, ominous villain. Cool monsters, exotic locations: you’ll love the clever details Lukas works in, it’ll reward multiple reads.”

Lukas Ketner: “I come from a horror comics background, but when Jeff first brought up the possibility of a SILENT KNIGHT sequel, I really had a moment of, ‘Get me in, Coach!’ The story has some great fantasy horror vibes, and I love that it could have been a DC Halloween series. I still don’t know if Batman will be speed skating in the story. Maybe I went too heavy on the Christmas flavor in my audition sketches; it was meant to show how interested I was in THIS particular story. I loved the first series, and Jeff was dangling an Etrigan carrot.”

Jeff Parker: “We also have the pleasure of reuniting with maestro Michele Bandini who drew the Justice League scenes lost in The Hollow Kingdom of the Knight,” Parker said. “You’ll see many of the creatures he designed return, which creates another direct link to the first series. You might want to reread this book before SILENT KNIGHT RETURNS launches in November (imagine me giving the Superman nod here).”

Lukas Ketner: “The team is incredible and I’m thrilled to be able to alternate scenes with Michele Bandini,” said Ketner. “I loved his work in the first series and was looking forward to drawing some of the monsters he introduced there. To share the page with Marcelo Maiolo’s colors and Patrick Brosseau’s lettering is humbling, to say the least.”
