Deadpool and Wolverine Concept Art Reveals Surprising Comic Book Crossover

Deadpool and Wolverine has been a box office juggernaut, delighting and surprising fans with its diverse take on the Marvel Universe. As those who have seen the film will know, those surprises include multiple versions of Logan Howlett/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), while Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) searches the multiverse for someone to team up with. In a recent Instagram post, Deadpool and Wolverine Concept artist Wesley Burt has revealed his take on several of the film’s alternate Wolverines – Patch, The Age of Apocalypse Wolverine and Wolverine in the classic brown and yellow costume. His designs also included a rendition of Wolverine from the 1997 Marvel and Image Comics crossover WildC.ATs/X-Men.

“In the early stages of designing the movie, we had dozens of ideas for variants, so I went straight to some of my favorite versions of Wolverine from the comics and did concept art of Hugh in those roles,” Burt’s caption for the post reads. “Some of my biggest hauls include Patch?, Logan from Travis Charest’s WildC.ATS/X-Men crossover (whose art was a game changer for me), Age of Apocalypse Weapon X—my favorite mega-event as a teenager, and also a quick take on the classic brown and yellow. There’ll be lots more in the upcoming art book! Oh, and a Wolverine poster I drew for my bedroom as a kid in 1992—I’ve loved drawing him for a very long time.”
