A modern take on classic Southern style in Charleston

SSAA has traveled all over the country and beyond, but there’s something special to be said about Charleston and the charm it has to offer. The William Aiken House sets the perfect tone for a classic, southern wedding and was the perfect backdrop for this styled photoshoot. (/field)

We were immediately drawn to the black doors and windows of the Carriage House and knew it would be the perfect backdrop for our lush ceremony. We then incorporated yellows, blush tones, and pops of black to play off the venue and incorporated them into all of our details throughout the shoot. (/field)

(field title=”The Venue”)This styled photoshoot took place at the William Aiken House in the heart of downtown Charleston. This historic southern gem is nestled on the city’s famous King Street. As you enter the estate, you are immediately surrounded by the charm of the colorful buildings, breathtaking grounds and gardens, and beautifully detailed interior. A true South Carolina gem.(/field)

(field title=”Wedding Dress”)We featured 2 traditional wedding dresses in this shoot as well as a short reception dress with 3D flowers. These dresses were from Lovely Bride Charleston located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. We even featured a black tulle dress at the end of Styled Gowns for something fun and unexpected! Our groom wore a suit from a local boutique in downtown Charleston, Berlin’s for Men. (/field)

(field title=”Florals & Decor”)We took a classic, southern yet modern approach to the florals and decor. Again, the venue’s colors were a huge factor in all of these elements. Oak and Fig Floral incorporated lush greenery and soft blush tones while Curated Events Charleston helped set the tone for the shoot with their black and rattan collection, delicate gray smoke glassware, and various textured flatware and place settings. We even incorporated a gray champagne tower from their collection. Linens from Nuage Designs and perfectly detailed menus and paper goods from Still Waters Paperie completed the impressive look. (field title=”Favorite Design Element”)The colors here were our favorite design element. We fell in love with how the blacks, soft blushes, and yellows played off each other and had a lot of fun incorporating them into every detail of the shoot. (/field)

(field title=”Tips for Achieving the Look”)A talented team of creatives came together to help us achieve the look we were trying to achieve and each vendor brought their A-game to this shoot. We decorated the William Aiken House with a lavish ceremony, a perfectly detailed reception, intricately detailed stationery, and the most perfect cake! We finished the shoot with a makeover for our models, including a short reception dress with 3D flowers and a glass of champagne! (/field)

(field title=”DIY Moments”)Our reception table against the venue’s yellow walls featured softly colored tablecloths, perfectly detailed menus, and wax seal place cards, accented with pops of black in the napkin rings, place settings, and silk bows. Our classic fine art with a modern southern twist was accompanied by a fun take on a fruity element… pearls! A southern statement. The black and rattan cafe-style dining chairs against the table helped complete the look. (/field)
