Bill Clinton appears fragile during his speech to the Democratic National Committee, with a hoarse voice and trembling hands

Former Democratic President Bill Clinton showed his age during his DNC speech Wednesday night, with shaking hands and voice as he tried to make the case that Kamala Harris should take the most powerful job in the land.

Clinton touched on a variety of topics during her nearly 30-minute speech, touching on Joe Biden’s supposed legacy, Harris’ former job at McDonald’s and American democracy. But she also made repeated references to her advanced age.

“Let’s get straight to the point: I’m too old to preach the truth,” he joked at one point.

“Bill Clinton says he just turned 78. He looks like he’s about to collapse. Donald Trump turned 78 on June 14, 2024. A little less than a month later, he got shot in the head and did this: they’re not the same anymore.”

“I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I have no idea how many more times I’ll be able to come,” he added moments later. “I started in 1976 and I’ve been here every time since – no, 1972. Lord, I’m getting old.”

Despite his self-critical humor, Clinton also boasted that he was “even younger than Donald Trump.” Clinton turned 78 earlier this week. Trump turned 78 in June.

Clinton then emphasized the youth and vigor of the next generation of Democrats. “They look better, they talk better and they will be exciting,” he insisted.

Kamala Harris, whose name Clinton repeatedly mispronounced, will turn 60 in October. Her running mate, Tim Walz, turned 60 in April.

Viewers also noticed Clinton’s fragile physical appearance, noting tremors in her hands and her diminished voice.

“What grave did they pull Clinton out of? He barely has a voice, for God’s sake,” one user wrote, according to the Daily Mail.

“Will Bill Clinton’s voice last until the end of his speech? He could turn this convention into a super spreader of the virus,” joked another.

Still others have pointed out that while Clinton appears weaker than in previous years, he remains a charming speaker.

“Bill Clinton is hoarse, speaks slowly, and his hands shake, but as a speaker he is second to none. If you watch closely, you can see when he is going back to the script and when he is rewriting it on the fly. He speaks as if he were in your living room. The master,” declared a popular X article.

Politico also praised Clinton for her fiery speech, in which she repeatedly attacked Trump with “relish.” “A slower, wizened Clinton sinks her teeth into Trump,” the newspaper headlined.

“On Wednesday, the Big Dog, a little older and his bark weaker, sank his teeth into another favorite topic and lambasted Donald Trump as a self-obsessed narcissist,” wrote Christopher Cadelago, Politico’s California bureau chief.

Another popular X user — Shawn Farash, best known for his comedic impersonations of Trump — took the opportunity to compare Clinton and Trump in a way that was more favorable to the 45th president than the 42nd, pointing to the iconic photo of a bloodied Trump raising his fist while an American flag flew overhead to demonstrate Trump’s vigor.

“Bill Clinton says he just turned 78. He looks like he’s about to collapse. Donald Trump turned 78 on June 14, 2024. A little less than a month later, he got shot in the head and did this: they’re not the same anymore.”
