81-year-old man charged after city centre protest

An 81-year-old man has been charged following protests in Nottingham city centre earlier this month.

Rival groups were separated by police during protests near Old Market Square on August 3.

Keith Edwards, of Kinglake Place, The Meadows, Nottingham, has been charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or unlawful violence.

He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on September 6.

Nottinghamshire Police said the protests had remained “largely peaceful” and warned that any further unrest would prompt a “robust response”.
