Doctors, nurses, medical interns and staff of Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore took out a candlelight march on major stretches of the city, condemning the recent rape and murder of a graduate student of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

According to a statement, the march was intended to honor the dead. It was not only a moment of reflection, but also a call for justice, healing and change.

Family members and friends of the doctors and nurses participated in the march. The mood was somber and participants marched in silence, the statement added.

Mark Ranjan, Associate Director, and Rajesh I., Medical Superintendent, expressed deep sense of grief and spoke about the various measures taken by the CMC administration to protect its doctors and workers.

Last week, staff at CMC Vellore and Ranipet wore black armbands, expressing solidarity with the nationwide protest following the incident.
