Firefighters avert disaster after two vehicles collide in Kwara

The swift response of the Kwara State Fire Service averted a major disaster on the Otte-Ilorin Expressway on Thursday.

A bus loaded with cosmetics collided with an overturned truck loaded with perfume and honey, causing a fire.

The spokesperson for the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, disclosed in a statement that the incident occurred at 08:12 a.m.

“The Kwara State Fire Service has responded swiftly to a fire that broke out following the overturning of a truck at Otte, Ogbomosho Bode Saadu Expressway, Kwara State. The incident involved a bus carrying cosmetics and a truck loaded with perfumes and honey.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the brave firefighters of the National Fire Service quickly mobilised to extinguish the fire. Thanks to the speed and coordination of the firefighters’ efforts, the fire was successfully brought under control.

“Initial information gathered at the scene indicated that the truck had overturned on Monday. Subsequently, a bus collided with the overturned truck, which caused the fire,” the statement added.

The state fire chief urged all road users to drive carefully to avoid such incidents in future.
