Disney’s Mishandling of ‘The Acolyte’ Cancellation Exposes Cast and Crew to Further Harassment

Disney’s Mishandling of ‘The Acolyte’ Cancellation Exposes Cast and Crew to Further Harassment

Disney handled the cancellation of The Acolytemaking the cast and crew even more vulnerable to harassment and trolling.

The Acolyte This is the latest Disney+ Star Wars original series. Although the series received positive reviews from critics and was praised for containing some of the best lightsaber duels and capitalizing on the most beloved Star Wars According to legend, he had to face incessant attacks from misogynistic and racist trolls.

The harassment began because the show featured a diverse cast and was led by showrunner Leslye Headland. While this type of harassment is typical of any female-led or diverse show, the reaction to it The Acolyte was wilder than usual, with trolls leaving tens of thousands of fake reviews of the show, relentlessly harassing its cast and crew, and sending death threats to those covering the show.

Despite the raging and noisy trolls, The Acolyte The show still managed to secure a fan base and positive reviews. Unfortunately, the ratings weren’t high enough for a second season renewal. Countless highly rated and critically acclaimed shows have been canceled for this very reason. Of course, the reason for the cancellation doesn’t matter, because trolls were always going to celebrate its cancellation and claim that it was canceled because it was “woke” and because women created it. As if it wasn’t bad enough that Disney decided to let these obnoxious trolls think they had won, the studio did nothing to mitigate the predictable attacks on The Acolyte casting.

How Disney Mismanaged The Acolytecancellation of

Given how wild the fanatics are The AcolyteYou would think Disney would have handled it The Acolyte‘s canceled as gently as possible. It had the power to at least try to deflect the hate and trolling that everyone anticipated following the cancellation. The studio could have issued a carefully worded statement acknowledging all of The Acolyte and how revolutionary this series was for the Star Wars franchise. She could have championed the work of The Acolyte the cast and crew, stressing that the unfortunate cancellation was not their fault.

After all, it’s not uncommon for streamers or networks to issue such statements of support out of courtesy. For example, even the wildly unpopular Max issued a statement reiterating how proud he was of the entire cast and crew of Our flag means death Despite the show’s cancellation, Disney chose not to release any official statement about the show. Instead, it simply allowed its sources to go to the media to announce the cancellation. Not only did this spark speculation about the reasons for the cancellation, but it didn’t even bother to acknowledge the contributions of the cast and crew. It’s a cold-blooded way to cancel a show, but it was especially egregious when the studio knew full well that Headland and stars like Amandla Stenberg would be blamed for the silent cancellation.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Disney suddenly decided to quietly remove all The Acolyte merchandise on its website. @DiscussingFilm broke the news, revealing that searching for “The Acolyte” on the website will not generate any search results.

It’s hard to understand Disney’s decision to pull all of its merchandise just days after announcing the cancellation. The studio didn’t even bother to inform anyone that the merchandise was going away. In the meantime, the decision feels like Disney is determined to pretend that The Acolyte never existed. Again, there’s no way the studio didn’t anticipate that such a move would fuel trolls even more by giving them another reason to laugh. Stenberg, who received the most harassment from racist trolls during The AcolyteThe ‘s race has become a primary target for trolls.

Trolls spammed the comments on every one of her Instagram posts, mocking her, gloating over her The AcolyteDisney Cancellation and Racist Insults. While trolling is inevitable when canceling, Disney could have softened the blow by issuing a statement defending the work of the cast and crew. In fact, it could have simply issued a statement denouncing the sexist and racist attacks against its employees, but it remained silent. All along, Disney has simply stood back and reaped the benefits of The Acolyte while allowing its crew and cast to endure horrific harassment. Now, the studio is too cowardly to announce the show’s cancellation itself or offer any sign of support for the cast.
