British Airways has cancelled flights at Heathrow Airport as Storm Lilian heads towards the UK with winds of 80mph forecast.

The airline has axed a number of international and domestic holiday flights at the London transport hub ahead of the long bank holiday weekend.

The list of destinations includes must-see vacation spots like Barcelona and Rome.

A British Airways spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: “Due to restrictions imposed by air traffic control at Heathrow Airport due to the adverse weather conditions forecast for tomorrow, we have made some minor adjustments to our schedule.

“We have apologised to our customers for the disruption to their travel plans and our teams are working to get them to their destination as quickly as possible.”

Friday’s cancellations come after BA was found to have a cancellation rate of just 3.2% in a global airline ranking – compared with 10.4% for top-ranked Eastern Airlines.
